Lewis Chessmen: Unmasked at the National Museum of Scotland The Chessmen
represent one of the most significant archaeological discoveries ever made in
Scotland. This new exhibition casts fresh light on their significance and
explores their possible origins. Discover where the chess pieces were found and
weigh up the myths and theories surrounding them. What do the
intricately-carved characters tell us about society at the time they were made?
The exhibition brings together chess pieces from the British Museum and
National Museums Scotland. New research explores the enduring mystery and
intrigue of these iconic artefacts. Daily at the National Museum of Scotland,
Chambers Street, Edinburgh. Admission free.

Perth
and Kinross Today Photography Exhibition Created as part of the Perth 800
celebrations, the exhibition is made up of 100 framed images showing the
diverse range of interests and activities in the area. Comprising landscapes
showing the beauty of the countryside around us, portraits of local people,
street markets, sports, festivals in the area and also some abstracts. Birnam

RAF
Leuchars Air Show 2010 - 'Battle of Britain At Home Day' One of the largest
Air Shows in the UK and certainly the largest event of its kind in Scotland.
This year, RAF Leuchars Air Show remembers the 70th anniversary of the Battle
of Britain. Gates and activities open from 8am to 6pm Entertainment and
Displays take off from 10am to 5pm. Tickets available on the day.

Falkirk
Area Doors Open Days From A-listed splendour to luxury dog kennels, the
Falkirk area Doors Open Days 2010 programme gives visitors the opportunity to
admire the design, architectural features and, in one case, unusual quirks of
five local buildings. To support the programme the Council Archives will also
open specially over the weekend, displaying materials relating to each of the
five participating venues including original plans, black and white photographs

Bringing
the Harvest Home at National Museum of Rural Life Help us celebrate the
harvest. See food preservation demonstrations and join in our Apple Day
activities with juice-making, 'dooking' and tips on growing fruit and
mini-orchards. Find out about wild food and spot the autumnal changes on a
ranger walk. Kids can even make a corn dolly! Experience farriery
demonstrations and stock judging at the farm. From 10am to 5pm at National

National Youth
Choir of Scotland Following two fantastic performances in Edinburgh and
Dundee, the National Youth Choir of Scotland, directed by Christopher Bell,
heads west to the City Halls, Glasgow with a thrilling and varied repertoire
that includes music by MacMillan, Fauré, Duruflé,
Mäntyjärvi and Saint Saëns alongside traditional Scottish

Scottish
Vintage Tractor and Engine Club Extravaganza at Scone Palace Celebrating 25
years at Scone Palace this year. Vintage tractors, stationary engines, steam
engines and agricultural machinery will be display, together with vintage cars,
lorries and other vehicles. Working demonstrations of vintage agricultural
machinery including ploughing, combining and threshing, plus trade stands and
auto jumble. In honour of the 25th anniversary, special 'attendance' awards
will be presented, and a solid silver salver, donated by the Earl of Mansfield,
will be awarded to the 'Best in Show'. The Rally will also include a FBHVC
(Federation of British Historic Vehicles Clubs) 'Champion of Champions' event.

Poozies at Strathpeffer Pavilion A first visit to the Pavilion by the
exciting all-female folk super-group that features Ross-shire's own Mairearad
Green, named Composer of the Year in the 2009 Scots Trad Music Awards.

Scottish
Mental Health Arts and Film Festival Now a regular on the arts scene, the
4th Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival has grown to become one of
Scotland's most valued cultural events with nearly 200 exciting and affordable
events taking place across the country to help challenge attitudes towards
mental health through the arts. The festival reaches people from Aberdeen to
Ayrshire; in galleries, theatres and cinemas to town halls, universities and
colleges, libraries and pubs.

Blairgowrie
Walking Festival takes place in this iconic part of Tayside and the
Southern Cairngorm National Park. As part of 'Cateran' country, we include some
of the more interesting sections of this uniquely circular web of routes. We
also have 6 new walks, ranging from easy low level walks to long distance high
level drove roads, reaching Munros, Corbetts and other hills. There is

Community Theatre presents 'KATHAKALI' with the Out of Darkness Theatre
Group A chance to see this ancient art of story telling using a 4000 year

Caithness
Mòd 2010 This week long festival includes a packed programme of
competitions covering a wide range of disciplines including Gaelic Music and
Song, Highland Dancing, Instrumental, Drama, Sport and Literature. Providing a
national and international platform for promotion of the Gaelic language and
culture, the Mòd also provides an opportunity for Gaels and non-Gaels to
gather and renew old friendships as well as forging new ones.

Connections This Autumn, Go Wild in Highland Perthshire with Wild
Connections, a unique wildlife festival taking place right at the heart of
Perthshire Big Tree Country. Explore your wild senses, gather with other

indoors and outdoors, showing off our natural habitats and their creatures at

World Porridge Making Championships Followed with interest by fans of
Scotlands traditional national dish across the globe, this celebration of
Scottish culture includes a pipe band parade of judges and competitors, the
official Toast to the Porridge, craft and produce stalls, live music, 3km and
5km Forest Runs and more. On this - World Porridge Day - there are also
porridge/oatmeal events across the globe in aid of Mary's Meals.

Lewis Chessmen: Unmasked at Aberdeen Art Gallery The Chessmen represent one
of the most significant archaeological discoveries ever made in Scotland. This
new exhibition casts fresh light on their significance and explores their
